How to Teach Your Puppy To Wear A Jacket

Should dogs wear outfits? Depends on who you ask.

Most of the dogs I work with wear jackets and some have a few different options with different weights and textures.

They also have other bits and pieces including bandanas, bathrobes, and PJs, plus some have a range of different harnesses and collars as well.

The greyhounds and bull terriers I work with (whose necks are bigger than their heads) also have martingale collars. These look like regular collars but will tighten if your pup tries to chase something they shouldn’t be chasing.

The tightening feature won’t hurt them but will prevent the collar from slipping off - which can be a life saver.

If your dog’s coat soaks up water like a sponge, you may want to consider getting them a raincoat.

Or if your dog just loves dressing up, get them lots of different outfits and have a photoshoot.

Teach your puppy to enjoy their collar, harness or clothing

If you want to teach your puppy to enjoy wearing clothes or their harness, or even their collar, watch the video to learn how.

As with all of my training, we start by building up a positive association to the item, and by slowly increasing the duration your pup has the item on.

I dive deeper in the training steps inside the video below
